This year alone there have been over 25 000 reported hijackings and that is where armoured personal vehicles come in.

The are many companies that specialise in armouring vehicles. Armormax, which is approved by Jaguar Land Rover and has armoured the all-new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. The Range Rover is built with B6 armour, which means it is capable of withstanding an onslaught against an AK-47, R5 and R1. The B6 level grade of armour will add 700 kg and will cost R1 868 000 or R1 928 000 for the long wheelbase models.

The Range Rover Sport is available with only B4 armour and will set you back a further R908 000.

Alternatively, Lexus has an armoured vehicle if the Range Rover is not to your liking. The Lexus LX has B6 armour built by a company called SVI Engineering, which specialises in armoured vehicles. The armoured Lexus can also withstand an attack by an AK-47, R5 and R1. It is priced at R1 060 369.

The Lexus LX is also available with B4 armour and will add R771 930 to its price.
