Chery has named its first bakkie for South Africa Grootman, a name chosen by South Africans. The model is planned to make its local debut in the first quarter of 2027.

Mahindra South Africa recently hosted its Dealer of the Year Award ceremony where local dealerships from the Indian brand were recognised for their success across different segments.
The big news of the event was the announcement of the Mahindra’s South Africa Dealer of the Year, where the top honours went to Mahindra East Rand. Mahindra Bloemfontein was the 1st Runner Up of the Year, while Mahindra Nelspruit completed the podium as the 2nd Runner Up of the Year.
There are currently 56 Mahindra vehicle dealers in the country and a local assembly plant in KwaZulu-Natal where the 10 000th South African assembled Pik Up bakkie recently rolled off the line.
A new sales benchmark was reached in the first quarter of 2022 when sales averaged more than 1 000 units a month, again repeating this sales success during the month of June.
Mahindra ended its financial year with 12-month sales of 8 525 units. This is 37.4% better than in 2021.
