Peugeot Landtrek gains more powerful diesel engine

Peugeot has expanded its Landtrek line-up with the addition of a new turbodiesel-powered model aimed at buyers looking for increased performance, greater towing capability and updated technology. The latest derivatives join the range from October 2026 and introduce a significant powertrain upgrade for the bakkie.

What Is It?

The latest addition to the Landtrek range is powered by a new 2.2-litre Multijet turbodiesel engine. Available in Double Cab Allure and 4Action derivatives. The new derivative is positioned as a step up from the existing diesel-powered models and is expected to appeal to both business and private buyers, Peugeot claims.

Engine:

The biggest change is found under the bonnet. The new 2.2-litre Multijet turbodiesel engine (from the Fiat stable) develops 147kW and 450Nm, representing an increase of 37kW and 100Nm over the 1.9-litre turbodiesel engine it effectively replaces at the top of the range.

Power is delivered through an eight-speed automatic transmission featuring an electronic gear selector. The additional performance has also resulted in a boost to towing capability, with the maximum braked towing capacity increasing from 3 000kg to 3 500kg.

Exterior:

Visually, the latest Landtrek remains largely unchanged, retaining the bakkie’s familiar styling and practical design. The focus of the update is on mechanical, technology and safety improvements rather than exterior revisions, with Peugeot opting to build on the existing vehicle's established appearance.

Interior:

Several updates have been made inside the cabin. A new digital instrument cluster and revised infotainment system provide a more modern environment, while wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are now included.

An electronic parking brake has also been added. New driver assistance technologies include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Detection, enhancing both convenience and safety, Peugeot claims.

Price and warranty:

The new Peugeot Landtrek Double Cab Allure and 4Action derivatives are priced from R666 900.

Peugeot backs the Landtrek with a five-year/100 000km warranty, a five-year/100 000km service plan and a five-year roadside assistance programme.
