Hyundai brings car buying closer to Soweto

Hyundai Automotive South Africa has opened a new hub at Jabulani Mall, marking a significant shift in how vehicles are marketed and sold in township communities.

The initiative places the car buying experience directly within a busy retail environment, making it more accessible to residents who would otherwise need to travel outside Soweto to view or purchase a vehicle.

Jabulani Mall, home to more than 100 stores, has become a central retail destination in the area. By situating the Hyundai Hub within this space, the brand is acknowledging the economic strength of Soweto and the loyalty of its residents, the manufacturer states.

Stanley Anderson, Chief Executive of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, explained that the move is about recognising a community that has long supported the brand. He emphasised that customers should not have to leave Soweto simply to explore or buy a car.

The hub offers a streamlined process where customers can view vehicles, consult with sales staff and access finance services during their everyday shopping. Importantly, finance consultants are available to explain the process in local languages, ensuring clarity and removing barriers that often complicate vehicle purchases.

Dealer Principal Darren Naidoo highlighted that customers could potentially drive away with a new vehicle on the same day if requirements are met and finance is approved.

The arrival of Hyundai at Jabulani Mall has also been welcomed by the retail sector. Marketing Manager Simphiwe Zondo noted that township malls have evolved into vital economic centres, and Hyundai’s presence reflects the importance of bringing high-value products closer to consumers.

“With Hyundai vehicles already a familiar sight across Soweto, the new hub strengthens the connection between the brand and the community it serves,” Simphiwe adds.
