Absa and Mazda reward Walk the Talk winner with new Mazda2

Johannesburg’s streets came alive once again with the 702 Walk the Talk, a celebration of community, culture and active citizenship. Among the thousands who joined the event, one participant’s day ended with an unforgettable prize.

Dr Nkululeko Zenzele Neville Ndlovu, an Absa customer, was announced as the winner of a brand‑new Mazda2, handed over at Mazda Menlyn by Bonite van der Merwe, Managing Director of Mazda Southern Africa, and Baltazer Mahove, National Manager for Strategic Partnership Development at Absa Group.

A partnership for progress:

The Walk the Talk 2026 was more than a mass participation walk. It was a collaboration between Absa, Jozi My Jozi and the City of Johannesburg, designed to highlight the city’s heritage while investing in its future. Absa has committed more than R10 million towards revitalising the Nelson Mandela Bridge and improving public spaces with solar lighting and community partnerships. The bank’s involvement reflects its belief that progress is achieved when business and citizens work together to create thriving places.

Mazda Southern Africa brought its “Wonderrrr Awaits” philosophy to life along the route, transforming familiar city spaces into immersive experiences. Walkers encountered a Japanese Garden at Jewel City, a Colour World at Fuller Park, a Grand Piano at Bank City and a Bubble Field on Harrison Street. These activations captured the spirit of discovery and joy, reminding participants that wonder can be found in everyday places.

Baltazer Mahove (National Manager for Strategic Partnership Development at Absa Group), Bonite van der Merwe (Managing Director of Mazda Southern Africa), Masego Khanya Mokoena, Dr Nkululeko Zenzele Neville Ndlovu (winner) and her husband, Tshepo Goodwill Mokoena.

How the competition worked:

The Mazda2 competition was tied directly to Absa’s digital banking drive. To qualify, customers had to download, register and actively transact on the Absa Banking App between 26 June and 20 July 2026, meeting the minimum spend and entry terms. This initiative rewarded customers for embracing digital platforms while reinforcing Absa’s commitment to creating opportunities that benefit communities.

A moment of celebration:

The handover at Mazda Menlyn symbolised more than just a prize. It represented the shared vision of Absa and Mazda to uplift communities, celebrate heritage and create memorable experiences. Bonite van der Merwe emphasised Mazda’s pride in celebrating Johannesburg’s story through activations that honoured the city’s past while inspiring new memories. Baltazer Mahove previously highlighted Absa’s dedication to building a safer, more vibrant Johannesburg through partnerships that connect people and places.
